Tailored

I found this fish print chitenje at the market about a month ago and had a local tailor make a blazer from it. He did an amazing job too, with two-toned blue lining and slightly raised shoulders.

People find Malawian chitenjes too garish, but I’m growing to love them. This one is very different from most. It’s unlikely that it’s Malawian. Most of the fabrics sold at the market here come from Tanzania, Nigeria, Zambia or Ivory Coast. I like this one because there is something almost Japanese about it and I am a little obsessed with all things Japanese.
