Last week we finally finished a project we started back in October but kept postponing because the roads were so bad in the rainy season. Our drama group worked with a charity called The Landirani Trust to devise a series of performance pieces about disability. The aim was to go out to a village that Landirani works with to educate the children there about people with disabilities. The Trust has been working on raising awareness about the realities of physical disabilities and dispelling beliefs that disabled people are possessed by evil spirits. Our students created two scripted plays and three mimed pieces about tolerance, inclusion and equality, which they performed outdoors for an audience of 400 Malawian learners. A truly rewarding and enriching experience for all of us. We’re looking forward to doing more drama work with the Landirani Trust in the near future.
